This is to anyone who feels like doctors think nurses are idiots... they have good reason sometimes.
- Sad but true, a nurse at my hospital was caught microwaving blood for a transfusion. When asked what the @#)(*&$ she was doing, she replied the patient was a frail old woman and she didn't want to infuse cold blood. Has she ever seen meat cook???
- Note to physician: "Patient has been having loose stools x 2 days." Upon investigation... maybe because everyone has been giving them ALL their bowel care medications (laxatives) despite their loose stools. Hmmm...
- Note to physician: "Occult blood for stool sample was + but I didn't see any blood?" Let's review the definition of occult shall we? HIDDEN!
- Pharmacy transcribed a medication dose incorrectly making it a much much higher dose than reasonable. The nurse then proceded to open 8 pill packets for one dose. You'd think after the 5th pill they'd maybe start to wonder if the dose was a little large?
