OBDR!

All of Jesse's hard work paid off and the Bronco is DONE! Well... done in my eyes. He says he still has to redo the tranny, brakes, gears, add a roll cage, blah blah blah. Men. He finished the bronco with no room to spare before our Oregon Back roads Discovery Route trip. We weren't exactly sure what to expect and we were honestly both a little nervous that 1) The bronco would break down in the middle of nowhere with no cell service 2) Elliott would get sick of driving and be miserable and 3) I'd go into labor. Okay, maybe I was the only one nervous about going into labor.

Our first day started with about a 6 hour drive to camp. We quickly realized that we should have put Elliott in the back seat of the bronco instead of between us. She was trying to steer, kick the shifter, hitting us, being goofy, and refusing to sleep because her totally awesome parents were so close. We set up camp under the sunset and the girls hit the hay. I went to bed early with Elliott every night. She slept better than I could have imagined in the tent. Especially since our tent was so close to the hustle and bustle of the fire and our camping mates bump the music until the last man passes out. Luckily I packed Ambien and ear plugs or I would have been miserable.

Each day we woke up, made breakfast, broke down camp, and were back on the road by 9 am. Our first day of real back roads driving was a LOT rougher than expected, and instead of our estimated 30 mph average... we clocked in at less than 5 mph. This made for a long almost 8 hour day in the bronco. Did I mention the bronco doesn't have a stereo and our CB wasn't working? Talk about some quality time with the good 'ol hubby. Luckily the drive was broken up with several social stops and bathroom breaks.

The second day of driving was much better as the route we took was smoother and had better views. We somehow avoided any catastrophic breakdowns and were only slightly delayed by a burned up starter and a flat tire. We ended at Thomspon Reservoir and stumbled across a slice of heaven to set up camp. That night was the most fun because we had the most time to hang out together. Elliott loved getting to play with all the older kids. As soon as we would stop anywhere she'd run away from us and we would hardly see her until bedtime. Can you blame the girl? The next morning we all aired back up, and 2 whole hours later, pulled out for home.

The trip definitely challenged my ability to go with the flow, be patient, enjoy the scenery, and be content in the silence. We're looking forward to another trip with this amazing group of people!
